How about them Seahawks? Geno Smith and the Seahawks stunned Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos at home in a 17-16 win Monday night. Smith was highly efficient under center, as he went 23/28 for 195 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. Tight ends Colby Parkinson and Will Dissly each had a touchdown reception for Seattle, which also banked on its surprisingly good defense to shut down Denver, which went 0/4 in the red zone. However, the Seahawks’ stop unit might not have star safety Jamal Adams in Week 2 after he exited the Denver game with a left knee injury. Still, the Seahawks are on a high and have all the confidence in the world heading into a showdown with rival San Francisco.
The Seahawks are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games in September.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (-9)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Speaking of getting stunned, that’s absolutely what the 49ers experienced in Week 1, as they left Soldier Field Sunday with a 19-10 loss at the hands of the Chicago Bears. Trey Lance struggled passing the rock as he was just 13/28 for 164 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception. That said, his underwhelming play could be mostly because of the poor conditions at Soldier Field, with rain soaking the turf. The 49ers also lost starting running back Elijah Mitchell to injury in that game, and with him placed on the injured reserve list, the 49ers will likely turn to Jeff Wilson for the RB1 role in the meantime. The Niners should have success against Seattles’ defense that might have stuffed Denver in Week 1 but still gave up 433 total yards.
The 49ers are 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The 49ers win, 30-16.
