Betting on the South Carolina State Bulldogs (odds)
Record: 0-1 Overall / 0-0 Conference
South Carolina State did not get off to a good start this season. The Bulldogs suffered a gut-wrenching 42-41 road loss to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. However, it’s clear based on the points they put up against Alabama A&M, that this team is capable offensively. The rushing attack was prolific against Alabama, as South Carolina State rushed 37 times and recorded 242 yards and four touchdowns. Running back Kendrell Williams had 80 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries. He’s not going to be that successful against Clemson’s defense, but the Tigers will be wary of him enough to stretch the field at least for a bit for South Carolina State’s receiving corps. Still, South Carolina wants to see its defense step up even against a tough Clemson squad. After all, South Carolina State has Decobie Durant, the MEAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Betting on the Clemson Tigers (odds)
Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
Clemson surprised a lot of people in Week 1, and for mostly the wrong reasons. Playing in their first season since Trevor Lawrence departed, the Tigers looked lost on offense. DJ Uiagalelei struggled against the Georga Bulldogs’ defense, as he threw for only 178 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception on 19-of-37 passes, while also getting sacked seven times in a 10-3 loss in the DUke’s Mayo Classic last Saturday. Clemson also only had two rushing yards. The problem in that game for Clemson was its offensive line that just got wrecked by Georgia’s front seven. The Tigers will have to fix that porous protection unit and disappointing run-blocking, but they also shouldn’t have much trouble against South Carolina State, which just lacks quality players. Clemson’s offense needs to get its confidence back and a game against the Bulldogs should give it exactly that.
Writer’s Prediction
Clemson wins, 48-7.
