Betting on the South Carolina State Bulldogs

250x130-250FREE-6-16-16

Winless South Carolina State looks to notch its first victory of the season this Saturday, though the Bulldogs may want to temper expectations as they’re up against No. 5 Clemson.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 53-24 loss against LA Tech and while that’s not a good sign heading into the game versus Clemson, it’s still a far better performance than the one they put up in their 38-0 season opener loss to UCF.

Quarterback Caleb York passed for 137 yards with two touchdowns on 14 of 31 completions against LA Tech. He’ll have an experienced pass protection working for him this season, which includes offensive tackle Javarius Leamon. Leamon previously committed to play for Clemson before ending up in South Carolina State.

As for their defense, the Bulldogs hopes to put up a respectable performance against Clemson. They are the FCS leader in tackles for loss last year.

Betting on the Clemson Tigers

There’s no need for Clemson to panic—for now. The Tigers have are among the favorites to win the national championship this season, but sluggish play and a surprising inability to crush an opponent they were supposed to have left some wondering whether Clemson is having problems.

After winning a close one, 19-13, against Auburn in the opener, Clemson had a hard time putting away FCS program Troy. The Tigers only had a 13-0 lead at halftime before outlasting the Trojans, 30-24.

Still, this is a team with a dynamic quarterback in Deshaun Watson. Watson had 292 passing yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions against Troy. That’s a small sample size to say Watson isn’t going to have a good season, however. He should be better next time against South Carolina State, which was lit up by LA Tech for 727 total yards.

The under is 4-1 in Clemson’s last five games as the home team.

Writer’s Prediction

Clemson wins, 44-13.
