How nice would it be for South Carolina State to kick off its 2016 campaign with a road win against an FBS opponent? That’s the goal of the Bulldogs when they pay UCF a visit this Saturday. They are 3-0 SU in their last three road games.

That stretch includes back-to-back road victories over Norfolk State and Savannah State, respectively, to finish the 2015 season.

Expect the Bulldogs to rely mostly on returning quarterback Adrian Kollock, Jr., who orchestrated South Carolina State’s offense that averaged 203.5 yards per game and 26.7 points per game last season. The team is hoping Kollock would be sharp enough to exploit holes on UCF’s defense that struggled last year, when it allowed 37.7 PPG, albeit against much stronger competition in the FBS.

The Bulldogs can find further motivation from the fact that UCF lost last year to FCS team, Furman.

Betting on the UCF Knights

Redemption is what the Knights are after this season following a winless 2015 campaign in which they went 0-12. To help them try pick up the pieces, the Knights hired a new coach in Scott Frost, who is looking to transform dramatically a UCF offense that managed a pathetic output of 13.9 PPG, ranked 126th in the FBS.

Frost has the pedigree to do just that as he was a former offensive coordinator for the high-flying Oregon Ducks. With UCF, he’ll be counting on senior quarterback Justin Holman to provide the spark and leadership on the field. Last season, Holman passed for 1,379 yards and seven touchdowns but also gave away 14 interceptions.

Holman, however, should be better with promising wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith waiting for passes downfield. Smith paced the team in receptions and receiving yards last season with 52 and 724, respectively.
