The Bulls are back in the win column after a long while. South Florida’s 75-51 home win over the UCF Knights last Saturday to end the Bulls’ four-game winless streak. The Bulls defeated UCF despite turning the ball over 19 times and shooting just 41.9 percent from the field. That’s a credit to South Florida’s better defense that held UCF to only 33.3 percent shooting. The Bulls also utterly dominated the glass, especially on offense. They had 21 offensive rebounds to just eight by UCF. Offensive rebounding will be a big key for South Florida in the rematch against the Cougars, who won the first meeting between these two teams this season back on Jan. 5, 83-66. Javon Green and Jamir Chaplin paced the Bulls in that game, as they scored 16 points apiece.
South Florida, which is 30th in the nation in steals percentage, has seen the total hit the over in seven of the Bulls’ last 10 road games.
Betting on the Houston Cougars (-18.5)
Record: 15-2 Overall/4-0 Conference Conference
Houston continues to be hot. Since losing in December to the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Cougars have racked up seven wins in a row, including the aforementioned victory over South Florida on the road earlier this month. In their latest outing, the Cougars took down the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on the road, 66-64. Houston has been phenomenal on the defensive side of the floor. The Cougars are allowing just 57.9 points per game, the sixth-best mark in the nation. However, their defense was not able to keep Tulsa from giving Houston a scare, as the Golden Hurricane shot 9/24 from deep. Houston will not have to worry that much about South Florida’s outside shooting that is just 355th nationally. South Florida is shooting just 24.6 percent from deep this season. Thus far.
Houston is 5-3 against the spread in its last eight home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Houston wins, 72-53.
