Betting on Spartak Moscow (+330)
To say that Spartak Moscow will be lacking in form ahead of their matchup with Liverpool would be an understatement. The Russians drew at home against Anzhi Makhachkala last weekend, which means they have now won just once in their last seven games in all competitions and have three wins in their first 12 games.
Included in that disappointing run was a 1-1 draw away to Maribor in their Champions League opener as the Russians allowed a late equalizer. It was a big missed opportunity for Spartak, who failed to record a win against easily the weakest of their three Group E opponents.
Now they face arguably the toughest group opponents in Liverpool. On the bright side for Spartak, they will be at home, where they have recorded all three of their wins this season. Moreover, Liverpool have been having some problems defensively of late and Spartak could take advantage of that deficiency.
Betting on Liverpool (-157)
The good news for Liverpool: they finally snapped their four-match winless run over the weekend as they beat Leicester 3-2. Mohamed Salah once again got on the scoresheet, making it five goals in seven appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho scored a goal and set up another as he looks to reach peak form after his failed transfer request.
However, the bad news was they conceded two more goals as more pressure mounts on manager Jurgen Klopp and his failure to fix his team’s main flaw.
Luckily for Liverpool, Spartak aren’t exactly known as an offensive force that can fully exploit the Reds’ defensive deficiencies.
Liverpool still have way too many weapons in attack to escape Russia with a win. Sadio Made is one such weapon, and the Senegalese will be well-rested following his inactivity last weekend due to suspension.
Writer’s Prediction
Liverpool (-157) allay some concerns surrounding the team by recording a much-needed 3-1 win away from home.
