Betting on St. John’s Red Storm (8-9, 2-2 Big East)
Point Spread: +6.5
St. John’s opened conference play with a bang, beating then-No. 13 Butler and DePaul before dropping its next two against No. 10 Creighton and No. 16 Xavier.
The pair of redshirt freshmen Marcus LoVett and Shamorie Ponds continued to light up the offense for the Red Storm, though. Both currently lead the team in scoring with 18.1 and 17.8 points, respectively. The former also posted his second 30-point game of the season in the Xavier loss.
All in all, St. John’s offense has an offense that’s putting up nearly 80 points per contest. The Red Storm should be able to keep draining buckets, especially against a Georgetown defense that’s conceded no less than 76 points in the last four games—a stretch in which the Hoyas went winless.
The Red Storm are 3-2 SU and ATS in their last five road games.
Betting on the Georgetown Hoyas (8-8, 0-4 Big East)
Point Spread: -6.5
There’s a good chance the Hoyas can finally get their first win in conference action. They’ve beaten St. John’s in eight of their last 10 games (7-3 ATS), including both of last season’s meetings.
Georgetown boasts a streaky starting backcourt in Rodney Pryor (18.6 PPG) and L.J. Peak (15.9), the team’s leading scorers this season.
Peak had 21 points in a tough overtime loss to Butler on Saturday. Pryor was held scoreless and went 0-for-8 there, but the Hoyas received solid production from Jagan Mosely and Marcus Derrickson, who had 20 and 14 points, respectively.
Turnovers have been a problem for this team, however. Georgetown is averaging 14.1 per game, including 15 in the setbacks versus Marquette and the Bulldogs.
Writer’s Prediction
St. John’s (+6.5) wins it, 84-80.
