Betting on the St. Louis Blues (1-1)
The St. Louis Blues will head to Tennessee with momentum on their side after securing a thrilling 3-2 victory against Nashville in Game 2 of their Western Conference semifinal showdown on Friday. Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice, including the tiebreaking goal with 3:51 left to help the Blues knot their series with the Predators at one game apiece. It was a morale-boosting performance by Tarasenko who had scored just once in the Blues’ first five playoff games.
Make no mistake about it, though, there’s still plenty of work to be done with this St. Louis team heading into Game 3 this coming Sunday. One thing that head coach Mike Yeo must address during the break is St. Louis’ power play woes. The Blues failed to take advantage of Nashville’s lack of discipline, going just 1-for-5 on the power play in Game 2. That has been the theme for the Blues this postseason where they are just 2 for 21 with the man-advantage. That’s the lowest clip among all postseason teams.
Betting on the Nashville Predators (1-1)
All good things must come to an end. The Predators had their franchise-high five-game postseason winning streak snapped on Friday with a 3-2 loss to St. Louis. It was a disappointing result for the Preds who lost for the first time in this year’s playoffs. They could have preserved their unbeaten slate if not for their late collapse against the Blues. St. Louis scored two late goals to overturn a 2-1 deficit.
That being said, the Preds are pretty much in great shape heading into Sunday’s pivotal Game 3. They have dominated the Blues in the opening two games of this Western Conference clash, never trailing in the first 116:09 of this series. The Predators will take comfort in the fact as well that they have home-ice advantage in the next two games. They are 2-0 at Bridgestone Arena in this year’s playoffs. They outscored the Blackhawks, 7-3, in the two games they contested at Bridgestone Arena in the last round.
