WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE 2022 SUPER BOWL MATCH-UP:
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Los Angeles Rams
About the Cincinnati Bengals:
The Bengals were barely even talked about as a serious contender to win the AFC title back in the preseason. But here they are, just a win away from having a Super Bowl parade back home. A big reason to that is the play of Joe Burrow. The former LSU Tigers champion quarterback hasn’t been without flaws in the playoffs, but his confidence never wavers – even after he got sacked nine times by the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Round. Burrow had 250 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns with an interception on 23/38 completions to lead the Bengals to a 27-24 come-from-behind overtime win against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, no less, in last Sunday’s AFC title game. Burrow was also sacked just once, so at least Cincinnati’s offensive line has shown marked improvement in pass protection. Although the Rams look like the better team than Cincinnati on paper, the Bengals had just defeated a team that was also more talented, deeper, and had a Super Bowl-winning coach and a former league MVP as a quarterback. Burrow and company’s success in the playoffs is no fluke. It can’t be after what they just did to Kansas City.
The Bengals are 13-7 against the spread this season. They are also 7-0 against the spread in all of their past seven outings.
About the Los Angeles Rams:
The Rams traded for Matthew Stafford last year for exactly the same goal they are one a win from achieving. Stafford has been delivering for the Rams in the playoffs in which he has thrown for six touchdowns against just an interception. The San Francisco 49ers’ defense made Stafford work in the NFC Championship Game last Sunday, as he got intercepted once and was forced to make some dangerous throws, but he did come through in the end to lead Los Angeles to a 20-17 home win. Cincinnati’s defense isn’t as sturdy and stingy as the 49ers’ stop unit, so at least on that end, it appears that the Rams are past their biggest threat. The Rams also have the rare advantage for a Super Bowl team, as they will be playing at their home field come game day versus Cincinnati. The Rams have won both of their games at SoFi Stadium in this postseason, including their 34-11 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Wild Card Round. Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham Jr. have just shown in the win over the 49ers why the Rams’ passing attack is extra dangerous. Kupp has been consistently good all season long, while OBJ is peaking at the perfect moment. The Rams are 5-3 against the spread in their last eight playoff games. They are also 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
