Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-6)

The Bucs manufactured a statistical abnormality last week. Despite pumping out a total of 501  yards, they only managed to score once – via a field goal. Tampa Bay bearded quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick went off for 406 passing yards on 29-of-41 completions, but had two interceptions. Tampa Bay also had 103 rushing yards on 24 total carries. The biggest impediment for the Bucs’ offense in that game was all security. They committed a total of four turnovers. They wasted so many drives that often ended in punts and errors. For the second game in a row, talented and highly-paid wide receiver Mike Evans had an underwhelming outing, as he only caught three of six targets for 51 yards. While that had a lot to do with the Redskins putting cornerback Josh Norman on him while also sending added defenders to cover him, Evans should do better this Week against the Giants’ pass defense that is 18th in the NFL in pass defense.

The over is 5-0 in the Bucs’ last five road games.

Betting on the New York Giants (2-7)

This hasn’t been an easy season for Giants Eli Manning, whose subpar play has been a great source of headaches of the team. That said, Manning came through for his team during Monday’s 27-23 win over the San Francisco 49ers on the road. Although he only passed for 188 yards on 19-of-31 completions, Manning had three passing touchdowns with zero interceptions. He found Sterling Shepard in the end zone with under a minute remaining in regulation to push the Giants in front and for good, showing that Manning can still deliver for his team. Bouyed up by that performance, Manning could keep it rolling next week against Tampa Bay’s faulty defense. The Buccaneers are last in the league in scoring defense and 28th in total defense. They are allowing 32.3 points and 400.0 total yards per game. Odell Beckham, who led the Giants with 73 receiving yards to go along with a pair touchdowns in the 49ers game, should find it easier to corral passes downfield, as the Bucs have the worst opponents’ completion percentage with a 73.58 clip.

The under is 4-1 in the Giants’ last five home games.

Writer’s Prediction

New York wins, 29-27.
