Regular Season Record: 4-1
Another week, another game where Tom Brady defies his age. Brady had Tampa Bay’s offense humming again, as for the second time in five weeks, the Bucs have scored at least 40 points by crushing the Miami Dolphins at home last Sunday, 45-17. Brady passed for 411 yards and five touchdowns without an interception on 30/41 completions. He is also benefiting from a stacked group of skill players around him. Even without Rob Gronkowski, who was out in Week 5 with an injury, Antonio Brown, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin were on the field to give Brady a terrifying trio of receivers who stretched the field for each other. The Eagles struggled mightily the last time they faced a high-flying passing attack, which was in Week 4 versus the Kansas City Chiefs, so Brady and company could follow the same template in roasting the Eagles’ defense.
The Buccaneers are 9-1 straight up in their last 10 games as the road team.
Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (+7)
Regular Season Record: 2-3
The Eagles avoided losing their fourth game in a row by beating the Carolina Panthers on the road in Week 5, 21-18. Philly’s defense stepped up and intercepted Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold three times and limited Carolina to only 267 total yards. Jalen Hurts was not able to rack up a ton of yards, but that was expected against a tough Carolina stop unit that’s regarded by some as arguably the best in the NFL today. Hurts and company can be better offensively in Week 6 against Tampa Bay, which hasn’t really been tested by a good offense of late. The Buccaneers held both the New England Patriots (led by a rookie QB) in Week 4 and the Dolphins (with a backup QB) in Week 5 to only 17 points. The Eagles are more capable on that side of the ball than New England and Miami, with Hurts and wide receiver DeVonta Smith rapidly becoming a big 1-2 punch weapon for Philly. Smith had 77 receiving yards on seven catches and eight targets in Week 5. He can be a threat to Tampa Bay’s banged-up secondary.
The Eagles are 4-3 against the spread in their last seven home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Buccaneers win, 30-22.
