Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs (17-10, 6-8 Big 12)
Vladimir Brodziansky (13.8), Alex Robinson (11.1) and Kenrich Williams (10.0) are each scoring double-digits this season for a TCU offense that averages a respectable 74.5 points per contest. But that number has significantly dropped as of late.
The Horned Frogs have lost three in a row, and are collecting just 63.6 points in that losing stretch, including a 70-52 loss at Baylor on Feb. 12. Adding more salt to the wound is their defense that put up little resistance in Saturday’s road loss against the Cyclones, who hoarded 84 points on 50.9 percent shooting.
On the bright side, it was nice to see the Horned Frogs’ offense getting some solid numbers from its first five despite the loss. Each starter had 10 points at least, with Robinson’s 16 leading the way. They’ll need to put together a much better effort, however, against one of the country’s best in No. 3 Kansas, which has won the last nine meetings (5-4 ATS) in the series.
TCU managed to keep things close in this season’s first meeting on Dec. 30, losing to the Jayhawks by just six points (80-86).
Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (24-3, 12-2 Big 12)
This won’t be an ordinary home game for the third-ranked Jayhawks, winners of four-straight (1-2-1 ATS) and 18 of their last 20 outings overall. A victory means 13-consecutive Big 12 championships, which would tie college basketball’s longest streak that was set by UCLA from 1967-79.
Kansas added another successful comeback into its resume last weekend, this time against a fellow ranked team in No. 4 Baylor. Bill Self and co. overcame a six-point deficit with less than four minutes to play to grab the thrilling 67-65 win. They were paced by Frank Mason III’s game-leading 23 points and eight assists.
Josh Jackson also continued to shine with 16 points, four assists and four blocks, extending his double-digit scoring run to nine games. He and Mason are the central figures of an offense that generates 82.9 points this season, the 13th-highest in the nation.
Along with that high-scoring offense is the Jayhawks’ sometimes-impervious defense that’s formed a valuable habit of fighting off late surges from opponents. That’s been the ultimate recipe of success for Kansas this season.
