Betting on the Team USA (-23)
As expected, Team USA put together a nightmarish performance for Iran after losing to France in the opener. The United States dominated Iran in almost every facet of the game. The Americans were flying on the open court, scoring 38 points in transition, mostly generated by their menacing defense that forced Iran to commit 23 turnovers. Team USA got whatever it wanted against Iran, and that could be the case again against the Czech Republic. Talent for talent, the Czech are no match to the stacked roster of Team USA. Damian Lillard led Team USA against Iran with 21 points and seven 3-pointers, while Devin Booker had 16 points. As a team, the Americans are shootiung 55.3 percent from the field in the tournament. The loss to France seemed to have given Team USA a much-needed wake-up call, and that’s bad news for the Czech Republic.
Betting on the Czech Republic (+23)
The Czech Republic could choose to be intimidated by Team USA, but won’t. The Czechs have NBA talent as well in Tomas Satoransky, who’s the leader of the team. However, Satoransky had a poor performance in their 97-77 loss to France, which came after the Czechs took care of business against Iran, 84-78. Satoransky only had six points on a salty 2/14 shooting from the field against France plus he committed six turnovers. Against the Americans, the Czech Republic can’t afford even tiny mistakes as Team USA can feed off those and break away in a flash. If the Czech Republic is to upset the Americans, it needs to shoot way better from long range. The Czechs are connecting in hust 29.8 percent of their 3-point shots, and that’s not going to make Team USA’s defense bend a bit. So far in the tournament, the Czechs are averaging 80.5 points on 48.5 percent shooting from the field.
Team USA wins, 104-76.
