South No. 10 – Temple Owls (Overall: 22-10, Conf: 12-6)
Team Strengths:
Brush aside the loss to streaking UConn at the semifinal round of the AAC tournament, and the Owls are are hot as they come, having won 10 of their last 12 games prior to that defeat. That superb stretch also ultimately led to a season title over the likes of fierce conference rivals in the Huskies, Cincinnati and SMU.
Temple also has a player worth keeping an eye on in Quenton DeCosey. The last time the team made it to the Big Dance, DeCosey was sitting on the bench. Now a senior, the versatile guard is averaging over 15 points a game and has maintained a double-digit scoring average in each of the past three seasons as well.Create a betting account now and cash in on all the NCAAB action.
Team Weaknesses:
The Owls often fail to overcome stronger competition. They have a record of 8-10 against teams ranked in the top 200 of the RPI standings, plus one brutal loss at the hands of lowly East Carolina.
Temple’s at-large bid into the Big Dance feels as if they were voted in mainly because they won a regular-season title. It’ll be interesting if this disappointing trend will continue against Iowa (28th in RPI) in the first round of the tournament.
