Betting on the Tennessee Volunteers (14-11 Overall / 6-6 Conference)
The Vols just can’t find consistency this season. They have alternated wins and losses of late, going 2-2 straight=up (SU) over their last four games. They had wins over Alabama Crimson Tide and the Arkansas Razorbacks and losses to No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats and the South Carolina Gamecocks over that stretch. They have a game against the struggling Vanderbilt Commodores who are just one of the few teams worse than Tennessee in conference play, so Tennessee should be able to take care of business in that contest. Tennessee needs a strong finish in SEC play to even be part of the bubble watch conversation and a win over Auburn on the road is going to be a huge boost for their March Madness resume. Tennessee’s strength is its defense, ranked third in terms of efficiency in the SEC. Their stout rim protection should force Auburn to take lower-percentage shots in the perimeter, which should be great for Tennessee, as the Tigers are only shooting around 30 percent from deep this season.
The Vols, who are sixth in the nation with 5.9 blocks per game, are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four contests away from Knoxville.
Betting on the Auburn Tigers (22-3 Overall / 9-3 Conference)
After coming out on top in three-straight overtimes, the Tigers; luck finally ran out last Saturday, as they lost on the road t the Missouri Tigers, 85-73. The Tigers’ shots were simply not falling in that loss to Mizzou. They shot just 41.2 percent from deep, which was that worse in large part to their atrocious performance from long range. Auburn sank just a single 3-pointer on 17 attempts, continuing Auburn’s story of stubbornness when it comes to choosing their shots wisely. Auburn will keep it that way most likely, as the Tigers have never shown much of an inclination to change their ways. For one, they know they’re going to get plenty of offensive rebounds and second-chance points opportunities. Auburn is third in the nation in rebounds per game (41.9) and fifth in offensive boards per game (12.2).
Auburn, which will also face the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens this Thursday, is 3-3 ATS in its last six home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Auburn wins, 71-60.
