2016 Texas A&M Aggies Football Preview
Team Strengths
There’s a lot of optimism surrounding the Texas A&M Aggies heading into 2016. Their offense, which was pretty inconsistent in 2015, looks better right now with some major additions in offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone and graduate transfer quarterback Trevor Knight, who spent his first three years in Oklahoma. He’s thrown for 3,424 yards with 25 touchdowns in his college career.Knight’s transition should be relatively easy as there’s going to be numerous options for him to pass to. Texas A&M returns four of their starting receivers from the last year, all of whom are expected to have better campaigns this year. In particular, Christian Kirk is the one to really watch out for as he led the Aggies in receptions (80) and receiving yards (1,009) in his freshman season.
Meanwhile, the Aggies’ defense looks pretty solid as well with All-American junior Myles Garrett and senior Daeshon Hall holding the fort. Both were very productive last year, combining for 19.5 sacks. That total should be even better this upcoming season.
Texas A&M is priced at +7,500 to win it all this upcoming season.
Team Weaknesses
Despite the new additions and improvements, the Aggies’ rushing offense still has a bit of uncertainty. Their running game, which ranked 78th nationally last season, remains a liability with Keith Ford, also a transfer from Oklahoma, the only legitimate threat on ground.
Besides that, the offensive line is another question mark the Aggies need to answer. New line coach Jim Turner is faced with a big challenge of fixing an underachieving group that struggled in pass protection and run blocking. He might just be the right man for the job as his relatively long tenure with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins should help him deliver some positive results. This is also Turner’s second stint with Texas A&M.
