Betting on the Texas A&M Aggies (17-8)
The Aggies are 1-0 SU this season against Arkansas, having already defeated the Razorbacks at home on Jan. 30, 80-66. It was a breakout game for Aggies freshman T.J. Starks, who scored a then season-high 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field with four three-pointers.
Against a lousy Arkansas defense, the Aggies were bound to enjoy a good offensive night in that game, which they did, as all Texas A&M starters scored in double digits, including Starks. That’s what the Aggies are hoping to see again from Arkansas, which is second worst in the SEC with 75.6 points allowed per game. Conversely, the Aggies are compiling 75.9 percent from the game. Texas A&M’s own defense, meanwhile, put the clamps on Arkansas’ high-flying offense, as it limited the Razorbacks to only 41.0 field goal percentage, seven percent lower than their season clip of 48.6 percent.
Texas A&M is 6-4 ATS in its last 10 games against Arkansas overall.
Betting on the Arkansas Razorbacks (17-8)
Joe Johnson is a free agent as of this writing, so maybe he could enroll again in Fayetteville in help Arkansas. Seriously, though, the Razorbacks have enough scorers not to long for someone like Johnson. Arkansas is 25th in the nation with 82.7 points per game. If anything, what the team needs is to improve on its rebounding.
The Razorbacks were vastly outrebounded by Texas A&M in the first meeting, 45-30, including a 16-8 difference in offensive rebounding. Arkansas is only 201st nationally in that department with 34.5 rebounds per game, but even a minor improvement here could spell the difference in its rematch with the Aggies. The Razorbacks know what to do with possessions, as they are 29th in the league in adjusted offensive efficiency per KenPom with 116.3 points per 100 possessions.
Arkansas is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS in its last four home games as the home team against the Aggies dating back to 2013.
Writer’s Prediction:
Texas A&M edges the Razorbacks again, 78-72.
