Betting on the Texas Longhorns (9-3 Overall / 7-2 Conference)

The Longhorns ended their 2018 regular season on a positive note, as they beat the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence on Saturday, 24-17. It wasn’t a clean victory for the Longhorns, but as the cliche goes, a win is still a win. Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger passed for just 143 yards and two touchdowns with a pair of interceptions while completing 16-of-28 passes. The Longhorns’ backfield, meanwhile, had 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Although they struggled a bit offensively in the Jayhawks game, the Longhorns’ scoring outlook looks fantastic for next week in large part because Oklahoma’s defense is simply a dumpster on fire right now. The Longhorns came awfully close to beating Oklahoma last October when Ehlinger had 314 passing yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-35 completions in a 48-45 loss in Dallas. Where the Longhorns have to tighten up is on their defense, as the Sooners can put up points in bunches – and in a hurry. The Longhorns entered Saturday’s game ranked fourth in the Big 12 with 25.2 points allowed per game.

The under is 8-2 in Texas’ last 10 road games.

Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (11-1 Overall / 8-1 Conference)

The Sooners can’t stop getting tortured on defense. Fortunately for them, they also can’t stop winning. Despite allowing at least four points in four games in a row, the Sooners have gone 4-0 SU over that stretch, which includes their 59-56 road win over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday. Sooners dual-threat quarterback Kyler Murray went 20-of-27 for 364 passing yards to go along with three touchdowns and an interception. He also added 114 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine carries. It’s not going to be surprising to see him put up at least the same numbers against Texas in the conference title game, as he was able to exploit the Longhorns’ defense in the first meeting. In that game, he had 304 passing yards and four touchdowns to go with 92 rushing yards and a score. It helps Murray a lot that he has  no shortage of talented weapons downfield. Among them are Marquise Brown and CeeDee Lamb, who are both in the top 10 in receiving yards in the Big 12. The two combined for 206 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the earlier date with Texas.

The over is 4-0 in Oklahoma’s last four games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Texas wins, 41-37.
