Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders +2.5 (6-6)
In what seems to be the case every year, Texas Tech got off to a good start. They notably defeated Arizona State and Houston to start off 3-0 and then they gave Oklahoma State all they could handle at home.
Then the season progressed and they got into the meat of their conference games and lost the majority of them. Their only conference wins coming against the bottom feeders in Kansas, Baylor, and Texas. Statistically, Texas Tech’s defense is garbage – not a huge shock there. They rank 100th in total defense and 95th in scoring defense.
However, their defense did actually play pretty well during their last three games. They only allowed 24, 27, and 23 points. And one of those teams was TCU with 27. So, we’ll see if they’ll be able to continue that momentum into the bowl against a very dangerous offense.
Betting on the vs South Florida Bulls -2.5 (9-2)
The USF Bulls came just a couple of plays away from having an undefeated season. The Bulls started off with seven straight wins and number eight was seconds away. Leading 24-21 with seconds left, the Bulls allowed Houston’s D’Eriq King scamper off and he scored the go-ahead touchdown with seconds left.
Then the back-and-forth game against UCF was absolutely wild. Definitely one of the games of the year. Statistically, USF is one of the better teams in college football. The Bulls rank 9th in total offense, 9th in rushing offense, and 16th in scoring offense. Defensively, they rank 28th in total defense, and 37th in scoring defense.
On paper, this is a very talented squad led by their two seniors Quinton Flowers and Darius Tice. It was another great season for Flowers who has thrown for 21 touchdowns, rushed for 10 touchdowns, and is only 28 rushing yards from hitting the one thousand yard mark
Writer’s Prediction
The line here seems like a typical line between a power-five school versus non power-five school. On paper, USF is clearly the more talented team and they’ll have something to prove. I like a couple of spots in this one, the over looks good, but my best bet will be the USF Bulls covering the 2.5 point spread. Pick: USF Bulls (-3.0)
