Betting on the Toledo Rockets (3-0)
Toledo just about made it to Week 4 with its perfect record intact as the Rockets survived an incredible 54-51 shootout against Tulsa last week. Senior quarterback Logan Woodside had the game of his life as he threw for 458 yards and a career-high six touchdowns.
Toledo is currently 16th in the country in scoring offense, averaging 46 points per game. The Rockets are also in the top 10 in total offense. Their speed on offense could catch the potentially rusty Hurricanes off-guard, particularly earlier in the game.
The big concern for the Rockets, though, is the defense. After holding Elon to just 175 yards of total offense and Nevada to 109 rushing yards, they coughed up 548 total yards to Tulsa, with 423 coming on the ground. While Miami isn’t quite as explosive of an offense as Tulsa, it is still one that features the speed to challenge the Rockets’ defenders.
Betting on the Miami Hurricanes (1-0)
Miami will finally get back to action after two weeks off due to Hurricane Irma. The last time the Canes were on the field, they were putting a 41-13 beatdown on Bethune-Cookman.
Junior quarterback Malik Rosier acquitted himself well in his first start as he went 17-of-28 for 217 yards and threw for three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Mark Walton paced the Canes’ running attack with 148 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Travis Homer added 108 yards on just 11 carries.
Look for Miami to lean heavily on that running attack to eat up the clock, give Toledo fewer opportunities to score, and eventually wear out that defense.
Meanwhile, the Miami defensive line, which is arguably one of the very best in the country, should have a distinct advantage in the trenches against Toledo’s O-line. The Canes’ strength and depth along their defense should play to their advantage as they look to outlast the Rockets at home.
Writer’s Prediction
Miami makes the multiple weeks it had to prepare count as the Canes (-13.5) run out 35-17 winners at home over Toledo.
