Betting on the Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays didn’t exactly have happy times in J.A. Happ’s last two starts, losing both outings despite the former 20-game winner pitching well. Happ will look to get a W today, as he goes up against the Bronx Bombers in the Big Apple.
In his most recent outing, Happ (2-5, 3.71 ERA) pitched for 6.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs on eight hits in a 2-0 home loss to Baltimore on Jun. 29. That came after he limited the Royals to only an earned run on four hits in 6.2 innings of a 5-4 loss on Jun. 23. Happ finished the month of June with a 2-2 record and a 3.19 ERA in five starts. He is 1-2 with a 3.24 ERA in four road starts.
Kendrys Morales and Steve Pearce are two of Toronto’s top threats against Yankees starter, CC Sabathia. Morales is 7-for-1(.333) with a homer in his career against the rotund lefty, while Pearce is 7-for-24 (.292) lifetime to go with two home runs in the matchup.
Betting on the New York Yankees
After almost a month of absence due a hamstring injury, Sabathia is expected to be back on the mound later today for the first time since Jun. 13. The Yankees have won in all but one of Sabathia’s last six starts.
That stretch includes Sabathia’s taming of the Blue Jays on the road on Jun. 1, when he let Toronto score just one earned run on five hits in 6.1 innings while striking out seven in a decisive 12-2 road win. Sabathia has a career 16-9 record and a 3.47 ERA in 28 starts opposite the Blue Jays.
It remains to be seen whether Sabathia would pitch as well tonight considering that he’s coming from injury so the Yankees’ offense will have some work to do early to avoid pinning too much responsibility on the 36-year-old pitcher. Aaron Judge will look to kill it again at the plate after finishing June with an MVP-like slashes of .324/.481/.686 to go with 10 longballs.
