One more win and the Toronto Raptors will be punching their tickets to the Eastern Conference finals, where there will certainly be no presence of LeBron James to haunt them. However, the Raptors will still have to get the job done, which is going to be easier said than done against a Philadelphia 76ers team that has its back against the wall. Will the Raptors finish the series this Thursday? Or will the Sixers force a Game 7? Going into the meeting, the sportsbook likes the away team by 2-points while NBA playoff series’ odds price Toronto at -800 to win the series, while the 76ers are priced at +500 to make it through the round. Betting on the Toronto Raptors (58-24 Regular Season)
Unlike in the past few games, the Raptors made sure in Game 5 that they give Kawhi Leonard ample support on offense. Leonard still scored 21 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the field in 36 minutes of their dominant 125-89 home win over the Sixers on Tuesday, but Pascal Siakam and Kyle Lowry didn’t just let their braided superstar do all the work. Siakam led Toronto with 25 points, while Lowry churned out a much better performance than he usually does in the playoffs, pouring in 19 points to go with six rebounds and six assists. It’s that kind of spread out offense which Toronto needs in order to flummox Philadelphia’s defense. The Raptors also found their stroke from deep going 10-for-31 from deep in Game 4, the Raptors hit 16 of their 40 attempts from distance. Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka played plenty of time together on the floor, and it worked, so expect Raptors Nick Nurse to continue rolling out that kind of two-man combo in Game 6.
Toronto is 7-3 against the spread (ATS) in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Philadelphia 76ers (51-31 Regular Season)
Joel Emiid had a night to forget on Tuesday. Clearly bothered by an illness, reportedly a respiratory issue, Embiid only had 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting in 31 minutes. He had six rebounds, but there was nothing he did on Tuesday that made tremendous positive impact on the team. Embiid, however, could be given a pass here given his condition. The same can’t be said of Ben Simmons and JJ Redick, who combined for only 10 points. While Leonard and Lowry were going about their business smoothly, Simmons and Redick were shooting bricks, combining for just 7-for-22 from the field Butler was salty on offense, too, finishing with 22 points but was 6-for-16 from the field..The Sixers need Embiid 100 percent healthy — or close to that — in Game 6, an elimination team for a stacked squad that needs to cut down on its errors. The Sixers had 19 turnovers in Game 5 which were converted to 31 points by Toronto. The Raptors had six fewer turnovers, with Philadelphia scoring 15 off those miscues.
The Sixers are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Philadelphia wins, 113-109.
