Betting on the Utah Jazz (41-31)
The Jazz have won one of the earlier two matches this season against Golden State, and the fact that they beat a healthy Warriors team once should bode them well for this Sunday’s match. Golden State could once again be missing some of their top players because of injury and/or rest purposes, so the Jazz must be feeling of their chances. During the Jazz’s 129-99 home win against the defending champions on Jan. 30, they were powered by Ricky Rubio’s double-double of 23 points and 11 assists. Utah also got ample support from Donovan Mitchell and Joe Ingles who had 20 point apiece. But it was Utah’s defense that impressed the most, holding down Kevin Durant and company below 100 points on 45.9 shooting percentages. That’s just what they do best, though. Utah’s defense is second in the league with only 99.8 points allowed per game.
Betting on the Golden State Warriors (53-18)
This game means more to Utah than the Warriors, but Golden State is a team that do no like losing games because they simply are not used to it. The Warrior probably could be missing some of their stars, so their bench will have to come through. As of this writing, the Warriors’ second stringers are averaging 32.9 points per game on a league-best 51.9 percent shooting from the field. Kevin Durant. Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry are all unlikely to play against Utah, while Draymond Green could also be rested by Golden State, meaning Warriors bettors will have to pin their hopes on Andre Iguodala, Shaun Livingston, David West, and yes, Nick Young. Don’t sleep on JaVale McGee, though, as he scored 14 points off the bench and helped neutralize Rudy Gobert in their late-January loss to Utah.
Writer’s Prediction:
Utah wins, 111-104.
