Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)
Record: 21-7 Overall/14-4 Conference
The Wildcats got tripped up on Feb. 22 in a 71-69 road loss to the Connecticut Huskies and will be looking to get back in the win column when they take on the Big East regular-season champions Providence Friars. Villanova’s regular-season finale will be a game against the lowly Bulldogs, and that should be an easy win for the Wildcats. There’s a big gap between the strength of the Wildcats and the Bulldogs. That has already been proven the last time these two teams met, as Villanova absolutely crushed the Bulldogs at home on Jan. 16 to the tune of an 82-42 score. The Wildcats shot nearly 60 percent from the field in that game and went 12/29 from behind the arc. The Wildcats can’t always be that dominant on offense but they should once again have their way against Butler that is just 100th in the nation in terms of adjusted defensive efficiency. Conversely, the Wildcats are seventh nationally with 119.4 points per 100 possessions.
Villanova, which faces Providence at home this Tuesday, is 4-4-2 against the spread in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Butler Bulldogs (odds)
Record: 13-7 Overall/6-13 Conference
Butler is on a tailspin, having lost all of its last four games, including a 64-56 setback at the hands of the Marquette Golden Eagles on Feb. 26. But this upcoming meeting with Villanova is going to be the Bulldogs’ first since that loss to Marquette, so at least Butler players will have extremely fresh legs for their regular-season finale. Butler has not scored more than 68 points in either of its last two games, but despite that and the score they managed in the loss to Villanova, the Bulldogs still have some bite on offense. Chuck Harris lead the team with 10.4 points per game, and he’s definitely itching to play again after laying an egg in the Marquette game. He had 15 points off the bench in the first meeting with Villanova.
Butler is 2-0 against the spread in its last two games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Villanova wins, 70-59.
