Betting on the Villanova Wildcats (odds)

Record: 30-7 Overall/16-4 Conference

Villanova s still standing, which is not really that surprising at all, given how great this team has been all season long. The Wildcats have passed all their tests in the tournament thus far against tough competition. In their last game, the Wildcats sent home the Houston Cougars with a 50-44 victory in the Elite Eight. Villanova has the experience, the coaching, and the system to go all the way. Even when playing an ugly game, the Wildcats found a way to beat a tough team in Houston, which only showed further that Villanova is a unit that can adapt to any situation. In the Cougars game, the Wildcats shot just 28.8 percent from the field but did not allow Houston to shoot much better (29.8 FG%) than them, either. One thing to worry about Villanova is the absence of guard Justin Moore, who suffered a torn Achilles in the Elite Eight stage. With Moore out, the Wildcats are going to need the likes of Collin Gillespie, Jermaine Samuels, and Eric Dixon to step up. Nova is also a team rich with experience, so that should help in softening the impact of Moore’s absence.

Villanova, which is ninth in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency, is 6-3-1 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.

Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks (odds)

Record: 32-6 Overall/14-4 Conference

Bill Self and his Jayhawks are rocking their way to the Final Four after demolishing the Miami Hurricanes in the Elite Eight round, 76-50. The Jayhawks were in trouble early, as they trailed Miami after the first half by six points. But they completely turned it around in the second half, where Kansas outscored the Hurricanes, 47-15. The final 20 minutes of that contest encapsulated how scary Kansas can be when it plays to its strengths. The Jayhawks finished the game with a 50 field goal shooting percentage and a +13 advantage in the rebounding battle. For most of the season, the Jayhawks operated with an efficient offense led by Ochai Agbaji, though others like Christian Bruan, Jalen Wilson, David McCormack, and transfer Remy Martin are all very much capable of taking over. Martin, in particular, is having quite a tournament. Although he scored just nine points against Miami, he dropped 20 against the Creighton Bluejays and 23 versus the Providence Friars. The Jayhawks aren’t that big on outside shooting, so they will likely not fall to the same trap Houston fell in when the Cougars shot just 1/20 from against Villanova.

Kansas is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Kansas wins, 71-69.
