Betting on the Virginia Cavaliers (+12)

Record: 19-3 Overall/9-2 Conference

It hasn’t been a typical season so far for the Hoos, but they have built momentum once again after winning back to back. Virginia beat the Boston College Eagles (67-55) and the Miami Hurricanes (71-58) in their last two games – both at home. The Cavaliers now venture on the road again, this time to face the streaking Blue Devils. Under Tony Bennett, Virginia has traditionally been efficient on offense and tough defensively, though, that the program hasn’t played up to par to the standards. Where the Hoos have been consistent this season is on their pace of play, as they are 358th in the nation in adjusted tempo, which largely explains why their opponents are only scoring fewer than 60 points per game.

Virginia is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall.

Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (-12)

Record: 14-9 Overall/8-5 Conference

The Blue Devils crushed the North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill last Saturday, 87-67. Duke never trailed in the entire contest and made sure to give head coach Mike Krzyzewski a win in his last game coaching Duke against its bitter rival on the road. The Blue Devils shot 57.6 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from deep. Duke manhandled the Tar Heels on the glass, coming away with 40 rebounds to just 24 by North Carolina. Duke’s size and rebounding are going to be the team’s weapon against Virginia’s dragging pace. By controlling the glass, the Blue Devils will be able to dictate the game’s pace on Monday and take advantage of the Hoos’ defense that is just ninth in the ACC in points allowed per 100 possessions.

Duke is 6-3-1 against the spread in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Duke wins, 75-59.
