Betting on the Washington Football Team (-2)
Regular Season Record: 6-9
It’s going to be the veteran Alex Smith under center for Washington this coming Sunday. The Football Team cut Dwayne Haskins right after they lost to the Carolina Panthers at home in Week 16, 20-13. Smith would give the Football Team more hope on offense than Haskins, who has never consistently shown he can be trusted in the pocket. Haskins was the starter when Washington scored an upset win over the Eagles at home way back in Week 1, though the Football Team didn’t really get a fine performance from the QB. With Smith, Washington hopes of better management on offense, though the team’s best receiver is likely to sit out Week 17, as Terry McLaurin continues to miss practices, as of this writing. Meanwhile, running back Antonio Gibson will look to show Philly that he’s improved a lot since the first meeting in which he had only 36 rushing yards on nine carries. On the season, Gibson has 720 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 151 carries. Washington’s defense will be the key for the team. It is fifth in the NFL with 21.0 points allowed per game and fourth with just 310.5 total yards surrendered per contest.

Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (+2)
Regular Season Record: 4-10-1
The Eagles have gone 6-1 straight up in their last seven games. That one win during that stretch was against the New Orleans Saints at home back in Week 14. Since then, the Eagles lost back-to-back games to the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys, both games on the road. Perhaps a return to Philly will have the Eagles flying again. Jalen Hurts will be starting for the team in the regular-season finale. Hurts has given the Eagles’ offense a shot in the arm with his dual-threat abilities, but he’s still having some growing pains. Nevertheless, he’s looked like the better option than Carson Wentz, who looked like live bait for Washington’s pass rush in the first meeting. Wentz was sacked eight times for a loss of 62 yards in that game, while also throwing two interceptions. At least Hurts has the mobility to avoid getting taken down that many times. That said, the Eagles’ pass rush has to step up. Last Sunday, Hurts had 342 passing yards (21/39) with a touchdown and two interceptions while getting sacked thrice. He also rushed for 69 yards on nine carries.
The Eagles are 3-0 against the spread in their last three home games.
