Betting on the Washington Huskies
(5-1 Overall / 3-0 Conference)
After a dud of a loss in their season opener against the Oregon Ducks, the Huskies have reeled off five-straight wins, a stretch that includes their 31-24 victory over the UCLA Bruins last Sunday. The Huskies continue to have success on the field despite their quarterback, Jake Browning, struggling to find a solid footing this season. So far, Browning has 1,5-8 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions. Against the Bruins, Browning had a touchdown and an interception, finishing the game with 265 passing yards on 18-of-26 completions. Browning, however, is getting plenty of help from Washington’s running game that produces 165.8 rushing yards per game. Running back Myles Gaskin, sixth in the Pac-12 with 92.3 rushing yards per game, could expect numerous gaps on Oregon’s defense that just allowed 241 yards to the California Golden Bears last week.
The Huskies are 8-2 SU in their last 10 road games. They have also covered the spread in five of those contests.
Betting on the Oregon Ducks
(4-1 Overall / 1-1 Conference)
The Ducks, particularly their secondary, are probably having sleepless nights ahead of the Washington game. Not that they’re scared of the Huskies, but due to their anticipation of the damage they’re looking to lay on Browning. Browning, as mentioned earlier, has been shaky under center this season and he could run into bigger trouble this coming Saturday opposite Oregon’s defense that paces the Pac-12 with eight interception. In Oregon’s 42-24 win over California last week, the Ducks picked Golden Bears quarterbacks a total of four times. On the season, Oregon opponents have thrown interceptions 5.88 percent of the time – third-best mark in the FBS. Oregon’s offense is still the biggest key for the Ducks, though. They are 11th in the league in scoring with 41.5 points per game and 16th in total offense with 289.0 total yards per contest.
The Ducks are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 home games against Washington.
Writer’s Prediction
Oregon wins, 33-28.
