Betting on the Washington Nationals (55-36)
Washington took off where they left off following the All-Star break, extending their win streak to four games by winning three-straight in Cincinnati. The Nats have a shot at stretching that run to five games, as they go for a sweep in Cincy.
The offense has just been mighty for Washington, outscoring the Reds thus far on the series, 29-11. The Nationals blanked Cincy in Game 1 (5-0) and completely clubbed the Reds in Games 2 (10-7) and 3 (14-4). Anthony Rendon’s bat is showing no mercy of late, going 7-for-4 with three home runs in the series. Bryce Harper is joining in on the offensive onslaught, as he’s 5-for-13 with a couple of blasts in the last three games.
That’s some great news for Stephen Strasburg, who’s looking to bounce back from an ugly start in a 13-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves just before the break. In that game, Strasburg allowed three earned runs on seven hits in just three innings of work. He’s 9-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 18 starts this year.
Betting on the Cincinnati Reds (39-52)
Unlike the Nats, Cincinnati is going in another direction, as the Reds are now on a three-game losing skid and are just 2-4 in their last six outings.
Washington has toyed with Cincy’s pitching but hopefully for the Reds, Scott Feldman has an answer when the 12-year veteran gets the ball for the last game of the series. Feldman appeared to have just that the last time he faced Washington, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits with five K’s in a 6-2 road win on Jun. 25. Feldman is 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in three career starts (18.0 total innings) against Washington dating back to 2013.
Scooter Gennett has been a thorn in the side of Strasburg, as the second baseman is 4-for-8 with three home runs in his career against the Washington ace. Joey Votto, meanwhile, is 4-for-13 with a pair of homers in the same matchup.
Writer’s Prediction
Cincy (+134) stops the bleeding with a 4-3 win.
