It’s been a long and windy road for Colin Kaepernick this offseason. First, the San Francisco 49ers decided that they’d had enough of the side show, but then every other team (it seems) decided to share the sentiment. However, with this year’s training camps causing so much of a stir, there could still be a possibility that Kap finds work before Week 1 kicks off next month. We take a closer look at some possible fits and how much of an impact he could have.

Will Colin Kaepernick find work before opening kickoff?
The prop bet is in place and Colin Kaepernick could still find his way onto a roster before you know it. Not to say that there’s easy money to be made here, but he is without a doubt, the last quality quarterback available in the free agent pool. With Jay Cutler now a Miami Dolphin, there are still some openings out there however doubtful they may seem. A few spots that have drawn some interest from many experts and analysts too. Here’s a few that we’ve kept our eyes on…
Kapernick the next Baltimore Raven
Seeing how Ryan Mallet has beaten the Pittsburgh Steelers twice in one year, his reputation in Baltimore is safe. With that, the team also feels warm and cozy with him stepping in should Joe Flacco’s injury keep him sidelined to start the season. However, behind Mallet the Ravens have practice roster QB’s at best and could use a guy with a nose for the game and a resume to go with it. On top of that, the Ravens could also use a mobile QB. Since drafting OL Ronnie Stanley in the first round one year ago, the Ravens have been keeping their eyes on the offensive line market. Now, thanks to a retirement and an injury at center, a new spot may have opened as well for veteran free agent Austin Howard. So, as you can see, a bolstered front line is in the works.
To add to that, the Ravens also lost running back Kenneth Dixon in late July to a knee injury that will likely sideline him all year. Needless to say, they could use some legs and they may have the well-built wall to protect the right pair come week 1. There’s a fit here, but he’d likely start the year as a backup. This is also pending a lengthy Flacco injury. If Joe comes back before the year begins, this rumour gets squashed instantly.
Kapernick the next Jacksonville Jaguar
The ice is thinning under Blake Bortles feet right now. He’s not impressing in camp and the team is getting sick of being the laughing stock of the league. The Jags improved their defense last year and in turn gave up some of the fewest yards in the NFL. This season they drafted the best running back out of college Leonard Fournette and are now looking to cement the rest of their offense. Even if Blake Bortles starts the season (which he likely will), he will be an extremely short leash.
Bringing in an experienced quarterback that’s been to a Super Bowl and knows what it takes to win, could be just what the young Jags need. Not to mention, a little competition for Bortles could go a very long way. This one is a bit of a long shot, because the Jags likely wouldn’t make a move until a few weeks into the year and by that time Kap may be gone. However, if Jacksonville decides they want to light a fire under QB-BB, Kap is hands down their best option.
Kapernick the next New York Jet
But don’t they have Bryce Petty!? Yes, yes they do. Exactly. Who the hell is Bryce Petty? The world still doesn’t know and he played in six games for the J-E-T-S last season. Will Kapernick fix the problems in New York? Not in the slightest. Without now inured starting receiver Quincy Enunwa, they’re in heaps of trouble. However, a strong quarterback who knows how to work with a terrible offense could be their saving grace.
Sure, you could make comparisons to Geno Smith a few years ago with the Jets. He and Kap are both quick out of the pocket and typically crumble behind an inexperienced offensive line. We’re talking about the Jets here though. A team that loves to repeat their mistakes, not spend a lot of money (Matt Forte excluded) and strives for mediocrity. It could be a match made in heaven!
