The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals were supposed to be competing for the top spot of the NL East standings but injuries to some of the Mets’ key players, including Steven Matz, have the team lagging behind the Nats and the Atlanta Braves in the division. Matz is healthy now and will look to help the Mets in quieting the Nationals. That and the Boston Red Sox-Texas Rangers tussle in Arlington are our picks for today’s edition of best games to bet on.

New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals (6:05 PM ET)
Line: New York Mets (+150) vs. Washington Nationals (-170); total: 8.5– view all MLB lines
The Mets saw their four-game winning streak end on Sunday with a 7-1 home loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, but they will have a shot to bounce back right away as they pay the Nationals a visit tonight for the start of a three-game series in the nation’s capital. The Mets, who are 2-1 in their last three games in Washington, will have Steven Matz (2-1, 2.67 ERA) on the hill. Matz threw seven scoreless innings and gave up just a hit in an 8-0 win in Miami on Jun. 28. The Nats, on the other hand, will send Stephen Strasburg (9-2, 3.51 ERA) to the mound, as they look to avoid a fourth-straight loss following a 2-1 road defeat Sunday at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Nats are 3-0 in Strasburg’s last three starts.
Writer’s Prediction
Washington (-170) wins, 5-3.
Boston Red Sox vs. Texas Rangers (8:00 PM ET)
Line: Boston Red Sox (-120) vs. Texas Rangers (+110); total: 11.0– view all MLB lines
The Red Sox are going streaking. After toppling the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, 15-1, Boston extended its win streak to four games and will look to stretch that further later tonight in Texas. The Red Sox are 4-1 in their last four away from Beantown. Rick Porcello gets the starting gig for the series opener for Boston. He is 4-10 with a 5.06 ERA in 17 starts on the season. The Rangers, meanwhile, welcomes back Martin Perez (4-6, 4.70 ERA) after the lefty landed on the disabled list last June. Texas is 3-0 in Perez’s last four starts.
Writer’s Prediction
Texas (+110) stops the Red Sox on their tracks with a 5-4 win.
