Betting on the Colorado State Rams (+31)
Colorado State finally snapped its two-game losing streak with a gritty 31-24 victory over the Utah State Aggies on Saturday. It was a huge bounce-back win for the Rams, who suffered an embarrassing 38-17 defeat to Wyoming the previous weekend. With the victory, the Rams improved their record this season to an even 3-3 slate.
The win came at a huge price, however, for the Rams who lost standout true freshman quarterback Collin Hill for the season because of a torn ACL in his left knee. That’s a bitter blow for Hill who passed for 1,096 yards and eight touchdowns against two picks despite not becoming the starter until the third game of the season. With Hill sidelined for the rest of the year, the onus is on Nick Stevens to deliver the goods for the Rams. He passed for 2,679 yards and 21 touchdowns against 12 interceptions for Colorado State last year.
Stevens will have his work cut out for him, however, against the Broncos who are the lone FBS team in the nation not to trail in a game this season. In addition to that, the Rams have lost each of their last five games against the Broncos. Fortunately for the junior quarterback, he has a solid target to throw to for Saturday’s game in wide receiver Michael Gallup. He caught seven passes for 140 yards and a score in the win against Utah State. Gallup has 25 receptions for 388 yards and three touchdowns on the season.
Colorado State is 6-4 SU and 5-5 ATS in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the vs. Boise State Broncos (-31)
The Boise State Broncos will head to their Mountain West showdown with Colorado State with momentum on their side after beating the New Mexico Lobos, 49-21, on Saturday night. It was another impressive victory for the Broncos, who improved their season-record to 5-0. They have won their first five games by an average of 18.2 points.
Key to Boise State’s fiery start has been their outstanding offense. The Broncos are 33rd in the FBS in total offense, averaging a whopping 471.2 yards per game this season. Just like in their opening four wins, it was Brett Rypien who stole the show for Boise State in this contest. He threw a career-best five touchdown passes in the win against New Mexico. The sophomore quarterback has already passed for 1,415 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.
For the Broncos to preserve their unbeaten record against the Rams, they will need to quickly establish their passing game this coming Saturday. Boise State outgained New Mexico, 391-39, in passing yards on Friday. Expected to play important roles this weekend are wide receivers Thomas Sperbeck and Cedrick Wilson. They combined for 365 yards receiving and five scores in the win against the Lobos. They will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing a Colorado State secondary that’s allowing 236.8 yards per game through the air this season, 78th in the FBS.
Boise State is 8-2 SU and 3-7 ATS in its last 10 home games. The Broncos are pegged at +10,000 to win the national championship this season.
