Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (-21.5)
Michigan has been playing perfect football all season long. Its unbeaten 9-0 record (5-4 ATS) is obviously a proof of that, but Jim Harbaugh’s team isn’t just winning each of their games. They’re beating opponents by a landslide, or by nearly 40 points to be more precise.
The Wolverines’ impressive 59-3 victory over Maryland last week was the fourth time in five games that they’ve allowed just eight points or fewer. It was also the third time this season that they’ve scored more than 50 points, as their offense has been just as remarkable as their defense.
Quarterback Wilton Speight, who threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns, while running for another one against the Terps, has efficiently utilized every weapon around him. He was also deservingly named as the Big Ten’s co-offensive player of the week.
Jabrill Peppers, meanwhile, has cemented his candidacy for this year’s Heisman Trophy. The multi-talented junior is the heart and soul of the Michigan defense, which leads the nation in lowest yards given up per game (246.3). Peppers gathered five tackles and a sack in the game versus Maryland.
The Wolverines are priced at +500 to be the national champs this year.
Betting on the Iowa Hawkeyes (+21.5)
The only thing that’s been relatively consistent with Iowa this season is its defense, which is probably the reason why the team is dubbed only as a three-touchdown underdog.
The Hawkeyes are conceding just 21.3 points, but their defense has taken a step back in the last two games, the latest of which was a 27-point loss to Penn State. Their offense also joined the struggle, being held below 300 yards in the same stretch.
With that said, it’s almost impossible to see Iowa put up a fight, on either side of the field, against an undefeated No. 3 Michigan program.
But if the Hawkeyes manage to get their running-back duo of Akrum Wadley and Leshun Daniels Jr. going, there’s a slim chance for a major upset here. Both have combined for 14 rushing touchdowns this season.
Iowa is 1-4 ATS in its last five home games.
