Betting on the Virginia Tech Hokies (+1)

“We didn’t deserve to win the ball game,” says Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente after his team’s 30-20 loss to Georgia Tech last weekend.

The Hokies, who were hoping to clinch the ACC’s Coastal Division title with a win, didn’t play their kind of football. They lacked the energy and aggression right from the start, resulting to a 20-0 deficit at the half. They also turned the ball over four times, while the offense mustered just 343 offensive yards all in all.

Jerod Evans tried to respond in the second half, during which the junior quarterback threw a touchdown pass and rumbled for a pair of scores. He finished the game with 316 yards passing and ran for a team-high 75 yards on 18 carries. But Evans was sacked five times as well, which is something that Virginia Tech hopes to prevent this weekend.

If Evans does receive some decent protection, it should probably allow the Hokies to finally get it together offensively. Well, for that to really happen, their overall defense, which struggled to stop Georgia Tech’s attack, has to hold its ground, too.

Virginia Tech is 3-2 SU and 1-4 ATS in its last five road games.

Betting on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (-1)

Notre Dame is fresh off their easiest win of the season against Army last Saturday, 44-6.

DeShone Kizer dominated this game, completing 17 of his 28 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns, while also contributing 72 of the team’s season-best 261 rushing yards.

The running back pair of Tarean Folston and Josh Adams joined the party on the ground, collecting at least 70 yards on 10-plus carries and one touchdown each. Both could have another productive outing against a Hokies defense that allowed 309 yards rushing in a loss to Georgia Tech.

Meanwhile, the defense also deserves some recognition for last week’s win. Notre Dame allowed just 242 offensive yards and held Army to one TD.

That win has definitely revitalized the team’s spirit, and it shouldn’t be surprising to see Brian Kelly’s troops carry their newfound momentum—and confidence—into this Saturday’s matchup with Virginia Tech.

The Fighting Irish are 2-3 SU and ATS in their last five games.

Writer’s Prediction

Virginia Tech (-1) wins it, 27-22.
