Betting on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (odds)
Record: 18-13 Overall/12-8 Conference
Rutgers got eliminated right away from the Big Ten conference and us just 2-4 straight up in its last six games. However, the Scarlet Knights remain a team to be feared. It was not that long ago when the Scarlet Knights made history when they stitched together four wins in a row as an unranked team against Top-25 programs. Over that stretch, Rutgers defeated the Michigan State Spartans, Ohio State Buckeyes, Wisconsin Badgers, and the Illinois Fighting Illini. That’s a more brutal stretch than what most teams are going to experience in this March Madness but somehow Ron Harper Jr. and company pulled off a 4-0 record in that span. Speaking of Harper, he’s definitely needed to step up this Wednesday. He is leading the Scarlet Knights this season with 15.6 points per game, As a team, the Scarlet Knights are averaging just 67.9 points per game but are allowing only 65.8. They are holding opponents to only 41.4 percent shooting from the field as well.
Rutgers is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (odds)
Record: 22-10 Overall/15-5 Conference
Just like Rutgers, the Fighting Irish did not last long in their conference’s tournament. Notre Dame went 0-1 in the ACC Tournament after losing to the Virginia Tech Hokies last Thursday, 87-80. Nevertheless, Notre Dame had a pretty strong windup to its regular season, winning seven of nine games before the ACC Tournament. The Fighting Irish have the type of weapon that can make them a dangerous wild card in the National Tournament and it’s their outside shooting. Notre Dame is 31st in the nation with 9.1 threes made per game and 20th with 37.7 percent shooting from deep. If they get hot at the right time versus Rutgers, the Fighting Irish will like their chances of getting out of the First Four and advancing to the tourney proper.
Notre Dame, which has five players making at least 1.4 threes per game, is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 contests overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Rutgers wins, 68-66.
