NFL News and Previews

Betting on the Miami Dolphins (+3.5)

Miami managed to gain just 95 yards on ground versus the 49ers’ league-worst rush defense on Sunday, but quarterback Ryan Tannehill compensated for it by passing for 285 yards with three touchdowns to extend the team’s winning streak to six—its longest since 2005.

Three different receivers—Kenny Stills, Dion Sims, Leonte Carroo—scored a touchdown for the Dolphins, who accumulated 358 yards through the air. Stills finished with a team-high 72 yards on three catches, Dion Sims hauled in four passes for 53 yards, and Leonte Carroo secured his lone target: a 15-yard TD pass in the early minutes of the fourth period.

DeVante Parker, meanwhile, continued making his presence known since returning from a hamstring strain, ending up with 64 yards on three receptions.

The Dolphins will really need both their aerial and running game to click this weekend. They’re up against a Ravens defense that only concedes a league-low 74.9 yards rushing and 222.9 passing yards (6th-fewest) this season.

Miami is 2-3 SU and 3-2 ATS in its last five road games.

Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (-3.5)

Baltimore’s now won three of its last four games, including Sunday’s home matchup with a shorthanded Cincinnati team, 19-14.

QB Joe Flacco threw for 234 yards and one touchdown, while setting up Justin Tucker for four field goals to help the Ravens end a five-game slide to their AFC North rivals. The victory also placed them in a first-place tie with Pittsburgh in their division.

Moreover, the defense has been just as integral in their recent success. The Ravens’ previous five opponents have been kept in check, and have been limited to just 17 points or fewer.

The streaking Dolphins, however, will serve as a huge test for Baltimore this weekend. Miami’s Ryan Tannehill has recorded nine touchdown passes in the previous five games, five of which coming in the last three contests. It will be fun to see how he’ll hold up against the Ravens, who sacked Andy Dalton thrice during Sunday’s win.

Baltimore is 3-2 SU and ATS in its past five home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Miami (+3.5) ekes out a 19-17 road win.
