Betting on the New England Patriots (-3)

The New England Patriots will head to their showdown with the Denver Broncos with momentum on their side after beating the Baltimore Ravens, 30-23, on Sunday. It was a critical victory for the Pats who extended their winning streak to four games. With the victory, New England (11-2) moved three games clear of the Miami Dolphins atop the AFC East standings with just three games remaining this season.

Leading the way for the Patriots in their Week 14 win was Tom Brady. The four-time Super Bowl champion completed 25 of 38 passes for 406 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He finished with an incredible passer rating of 116.8. Benefiting from Brady’s solid play was Chris Hogan. He caught five passes for 129 yards and a score. With New England’s aerial attack in full flow, that opened things up for LeGarrette Blount. He wreaked havoc against Baltimore’s defensive line, rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown.

The Patriots will need more of the same efficiency from Brady if they are to beat the Broncos this coming Sunday. He will have his work cut out for him, however, against a Denver secondary that is tops in the NFL in passing defense this season. Apart from Brady making big plays, New England will also need its defense to be relentless against the reigning Super Bowl champions. The Patriots are second in the NFL in scoring defense, allowing a measly 17.7 points per game this season. The Pats will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing a Denver offense that produced just 10 points in Week 14, their lowest output this campaign.

New England is 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS on the road this season.

Betting on the Denver Broncos (+3)

Denver’s playoff hopes took a huge hit on Sunday with a gut-wrenching 13-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Nissan Stadium. Not even a 334-yard passing performance by Trevor Siemian can rescue the Broncos who are now two games behind leaders Kansas City and Oakland in the AFC West standings.

The Broncos will look to get their season back on track when they lock horns with the Patriots this coming Sunday. For Denver to record the much-needed win, it needs to do a much better job on its third-down opportunities. The Broncos converted just three of their 11 third-down attempts against the Titans on Sunday. The Broncos’ offense would function a whole lot better if they can incorporate the running game to their attack. Denver is 27th in the league in rushing (93.8 yards per game) this season.

It’s also paramount for the Broncos that they start strong against the Patriots. They have been outscored 70-23 in the first quarter this season. The onus then is on Siemian to carry the scoring cudgels for the Broncos. In Siemian’s five starts over Denver’s last six games, the quarterback has thrown for 1,519 yards (303.8 yards per contest) with eight touchdowns and four picks. He has managed to put up those impressive numbers even with an offensive line that has already yielded a whopping 17 sacks this season.

The Broncos are 6-1 SU and ATS in their last seven home games against the Patriots.
