Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (32-21)
The Los Angeles Clippers finally snapped their three-game losing skid with a thrilling 119-115 victory over the New York Knicks on Wednesday. Four players scored in double-figures for the Clips who beat the Knicks for the ninth consecutive time. That’s their longest current winning streak against an opponent and their longest ever against the reeling Knicks.
Leading the way for LA in this critical road win was Blake Griffin. He scored a season-high 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Griffin shot 11 of 23 from the field and 8 for 11 at the free throw line in that said contest. Griffin has been a vital cog in LA’s success this season, leading the team in scoring with a 21.9 PPG average.
The Clippers will look to make it back-to-back wins when they lock horns with the Charlotte Hornets this coming Saturday. They will fancy their chances of doing just that as they have fared extremely well against the Hornets of late. The Clippers have won 10 of their last 11 games against the Hornets, including each of their last four meetings. The Clippers have covered the spread in eight of those 11 games.
The Clippers are 3-1 ATS in their last four road games.
Betting on the Charlotte Hornets (24-29)
The Charlotte Hornets were sent crashing back to earth on Thursday night as they suffered a stinging 107-95 loss to the Houston Rockets. The Hornets had difficulty stopping James Harden who erupted for 30 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. With the defeat, the Hornets have now lost eight of their last nine games.
The Hornets will look to get their season back on track when they face the Clippers tonight. For Charlotte to grab the much-needed victory, it needs to take much better care of the basketball. The Hornets committed a season-high 22 turnovers on Thurday which the Rockets turned into 27 huge points. They can ill afford to repeat that sloppy play against a Clippers side that is 18th in the NBA in points off turnovers, averaging 15.7 per game this season.
Another source of concern for head coach Steve Clifford is his team’s growing injury crisis. Clifford’s preferred starting five this season – Kemba Walker, Nic Batum, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marvin Williams and Cody Zeller – have all been available in only 28 of 53 games. Zeller, who just returned from injury, departed the game against Houston with soreness in his quad. Compounding the Hornets’ woes are Walker’s ongoing struggles. During his past four games, the All-Star guard is shooting just 17-of-56 from the field. Walker looked out of sorts in the loss to Houston, turning the ball over a whopping six times.
The Hornets are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games.
