Betting on the Texas Tech Red Raiders (17-9, 5-8 Big 12)
We already saw this Texas Tech team top West Virginia back in a thriller at Lubbock earlier this season, 77-76. Thus, it won’t be surprising to see the same outcome again here.
The Red Raiders have already earned every team’s respect with big wins and close setbacks against a number of the country’s top programs. They’re 3-3 versus ranked opponents, with two out of the three losses decided by only four points combined.
Texas Tech also heads into this game coming off its latest upset over fourth-ranked Baylor on Monday night, during which the Red Raiders blew an early lead before eventually rallying back down the stretch to grasp the 84-78 win.
Guard Keenan Evans led the way for the Red Raiders, collecting a game-high 23 points on 50 percent shooting. That was his third-consecutive 20-point effort, which boosts his team-leading scoring average to 15.2 points per game this season.
Betting on the West Virginia Mountaineers (20-6, 8-5 Big 12)
Aside from revenge, the ninth-ranked Mountaineers will be carrying a tough overtime loss to Kansas Monday in this rematch.
West Virginia squandered a 14-point lead with less than five minutes left to play, which eventually wasted Esa Ahmad’s 20-point performance and a chance to overtake Baylor for the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 standings. The 21 turnovers also didn’t help, obviously.
Nonetheless, the Mountaineers remain favored to win against the Red Raiders. They have the edge on both offense and defense, but needless to say, losing to Texas Tech earlier this season should serve as a reminder that this game won’t be a walk in the park.
Ahmad, who leads West Virginia in scoring with 11.9 per game, needs to keep it going while the defense better holds its ground, too. Texas Tech racked up 84 and 79 points in its previous two games.
The Mountaineers are 8-2 SU in their last 10 at home.
