BC Eagles vs. FSU Seminoles (7:00 PM ET)
Line: Boston College Eagles (+18) vs. Florida State Seminoles (-18); total: 157.0 – view all NCAA basketball lines
Now that was a shock. Florida State stumbled to their second consecutive defeat with a stunning 80-66 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Seminoles had difficulty stopping Sheldon Jeter who scored a career-high 29 points. They are now 2-6 in ACC road games this season. The Seminoles will look to get their season back on track when they host the BC Eagles tonight. It’s important for Florida State that Dwayne Bacon step up his play against Boston College. Bacon was held to zero points on Saturday, the first time that has happened in his career.
The Seminoles will fancy their chances, however, of beating the Eagles as they have fared extremely well against Boston College of late. The Seminoles have won their last five meetings with the Eagles. Boston College is mired in a deep slump, losing 12 of their last 13 games, including each of their last 10 outings. The Eagles are just 1-5 all-time in Tallahassee with the lone victory coming in 2007.
The Seminoles are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games against the Eagles.
Writer’s Prediction
Florida State (+18) not only wins but also covers the spread against Boston College.
Texas Longhorns vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (9:00 PM ET)
Line: Texas Longhorns (+15.5) vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (-15.5); total: 143.5 – view all NCAA basketball lines
The pressure is definitely building on Texas head coach Shaka Smart after the Longhorns stumbled to yet another defeat on Saturday, a gut-wrenching 64-61 loss to Kansas State. The Longhorns are now in the midst of a three-game losing skid as they dropped to 0-12 away from Austin. After making five straight NCAA tournament appearances with VCU, Smart owns an even 30-30 record in his second season with Texas.
Next up for Texas is a clash with Big 12 rivals West Virginia. One guy who needs to step up for the Longhorns in this matchup is freshman phenom Jarrett Allen. The 6-foot-11 center is averaging 13.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game this season. In Texas’ 74-72 loss to West Virginia last January 14, Allen scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots. The Mountaineers are coming off a morale-boosting 83-74 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday. Elijah Macon had a career game, nabbing 17 points and 12 boards in that contest.
West Virginia is 3-1 ATS in its last four home games against Texas.
Writer’s Prediction
West Virginia wins but Texas covers +15.5.
