Betting on the Golden State Warriors (50-11)
We’re not used to seeing it in the regular season, but the Warriors are on a losing rut, having lost their last two outings. After a 112-108 loss to Washington last Tuesday, the Warriors fell flat on their faces again when they suffered a 94-87 setback in Chicago on Thursday.
This isn’t 2016, a time when the Warriors appear to have that cloak of invincibility. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have been mere mortals from deep of late, going 4-for-22 from beyond the arc together in the last two games. The saltiness from deep can’t stay long for the two, though, and they could recover their shooting touches as soon as tonight against the bumbling Knicks’ defense that allows 108.7 points per game. The duo scored 33 points and combined for six threes in the 103-90 win over the Knicks back in Dec. 15.
Kevin Durant scored 15 points in that game but he’ll not be able to suit up tonight due to a knee injury, meaning more responsibility for Curry, Thompson, and other Warriors, particularly on offense.
The Warriors are tops in the league on offense, averaging 117.5 PPG on 49.6 field goal percentage—also best in the NBA.
The Warriors are 3-1 ATS in their last four games in New York.
Betting on the New York Knicks (25-37)
Remember when Derrick Rose thought that the Knicks were a super team? It sounded funny then and it sounds several-fold funnier today with the Knicks going 25-37 and out of the current playoff picture in the eastern conference.
Still, the Knicks could try climbing up the standings and a win tonight against the Warriors would be a shot in the arm of the struggling club. The Knicks are coming off a 105-102 road loss in Philly on Friday and will make a quick stop at home later tonight before hitting the road again for a four-game trip away from Madison Square Garden.
New York’s top guns were no shows in the first meeting with the Warriors with Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose absent due to different injuries. Kristaps Porzingis, meanwhile, scored just eight points on 4-for-13 shooting from the field while Courtney Lee only had nine points. Anthony and Rose are set to play tonight so the Knicks should be better as a team than the one who showed up in December against the Warriors and shot 40.9% from the floor.
The Knicks are starting to expect good things from Lance Thomas, as the five-year veteran has upped his average from 5.8 PPG this season to 12.8 PPG over his last five games. That stretch includes his 21-point outburst in the Sixers game. He has scored at least 11 points in his last four outings.
The under is 3-0 in the Knicks last three home games.
