Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (57-17)
The San Antonio Spurs got a rude awakening on Wednesday as they suffered a stunning 110-98 loss to the Golden State Warriors. The Spurs squandered a huge 22-point first-quarter advantage to fall 3.5 games behind the league-leading Warriors in the Western Conference standings. The Spurs had difficulty stopping Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry who combined for 52 points on 50 percent shooting from the field.
They will look to get their season back on track when they lock horns with the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight. For the Spurs to accomplish that feat, they will need to take much better care of the basketball. San Antonio committed 15 turnovers on Wednesday which Golden State converted into 23 huge points. Kawhi Leonard, in particular, played some sloppy basketball against the Warriors, turning the ball over five times. He scored just 19 points in that contest on a woeful 7-of-20 shooting from the floor.
After shooting 40 percent or better from deep in November, December and January, Leonard dipped to 28.6 percent in February and is shooting just 29.6 percent from beyond the arc for March. In Leonard’s last six outings, he has nailed just 6 of 34 attempts from 3-point range (17.6 percent), including an 0-for-12 showing over the last two games. Gregg Popovich will hope that Leonard can rediscover his shooting stroke against the Thunder tonight. In two meetings with OKC this season, Leonard is averaging 27.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
The Spurs are 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Oklahoma City Thunder (43-31)
Let’s just give the MVP trophy to Russell Westbrook. The records just keep on tumbling for the UCLA alum as he scored the most points in a triple-double in OKC’s latest win against Orlando. Westbrook scored 57 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out 11 assists in that ballgame to lead the Thunder to a dramatic 114-106 come-from-behind overtime victory. It was a remarkable achievement by Westbrook who recorded his second 50-point triple-double this season.
Next up for the unstoppable Westbrook is a clash with the San Antonio Spurs. He will fancy his chances of continuing that outstanding form tonight as he has fared extremely well against the Spurs of late. He had 23 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists in OKC’s 102-92 win over San Antonio on March 9. The Thunder have won five of their last six home games against the Spurs, including each of their last three meetings at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Thunder are 8-2 SU and ATS in their last 10 home games.
