Betting on the Texas Rangers (24-25)
The Texas Rangers’ road woes continued last night, as they lost their series opener to the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-6. Texas starter AJ Griffin lasted just 1.1 innings and gave up a grand slam before leaving with a strained left intercostal muscle, and was quickly placed on the 10-day disabled list.
That was the Rangers’ fourth loss in a row and fifth in the last six road games. They’ve given up an average of 8.4 runs in those five losses.
However, Texas will have a terrific chance to finally end that skid with Yu Darvish set for another start. The Japanese ace is having a stellar season thus far, putting up a 2.83 ERA over his first 10 starts. Darvish has been dealing in his last six starts, as he’s gone 4-0 with a 2.54 ERA. The Rangers have won each of Darvish’s last six starts.
Darvish is 3-2 with a 2.45 ERA in seven career games against the Toronto. He’s also owned the Blue Jays’ big bats over the course of his career. Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, Russell Martin, Kendrys Morales and Justin Smoak have combined to go just 12-for-87 (.138) against Darvish, and no one has even a single extra base hit.
Betting on the Toronto Blue Jays (22-26)
The Blue Jays are finally getting into a nice groove as they’ve now won four games in a row. And they got even better news with the return of both Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki in last night’s win after they sat out for the past month.
The return of those big bats should only strengthen a lineup that’s getting strong contributions from Devon Travis. The second baseman got the big grand slam in last night’s win, as he went 3-of-4. Travis has now hit safely in 10 consecutive games.
On the mound for the Blue Jays will be Marco Estrada. The veteran righty had a very strong start last time out as gave up a single run and struck out 12 in 7.2 innings to get a 3-1 win over the Baltimore O’s. However, he has been a bit inconsistent in May, and has given up five runs in a start twice immediately after delivering a quality start.
Writer’s Prediction
Darvish keeps dealing to lead the Rangers (-103) to a road win.
