Betting on the Los Angeles Angels (29-31)
The Angels are hanging in there in their first week or so without Mike Trout. They’ve gone 3-4 in their first seven games without their superstar slugger, although they recently lost three out of four in a series against the Minnesota Twins.
LA will turn to starter Jesse Chavez to try and stop the rot against the Tigers. The 33-year-old righty was pretty mediocre for the month of May, where he went 2-2 with a 4.84 ERA in six starts. However, he’s coming off his best start of the season last time out against the Atlanta Braves. He went seven strong innings and gave up a single run on five hits.
Chavez has three career starts against the Tigers—all while he was still an Oakland Athletic, and all resulted in defeat for the A’s. But he did go for eight innings and gave up no earned runs in his last start against them on May 26, 2015.
Meanwhile, Chavez will be hoping for more of the same power surge the Angels lineup has suddenly experienced with Trout out of the lineup. The Angels have 11 homers in six games without Trout, five of which coming off the bats of Albert Pujols and Kole Calhoun.
Betting on the Detroit Tigers (28-28)
The Detroit Tigers have extended their season-high win streak to four games with a dominant sweep of the Chicago White Sox. They won those three games by a total score of 32-10, as the Tiger bats pounced on bad White Sox pitching.
Justin Upton has been instrumental in this current win streak. He’s gone 7-of-13 over the last four games, with two homers and seven RBI. JD Martinez has also been slugging, with three doubles, two homers, and five RBI during that same span.
Starting pitcher Daniel Norris could certainly use some run support given how inconsistent his performances have been this season. He basically alternated between good and bad starts for the entire month of May, as he finished with a mediocre 4.32 ERA over six starts. But Norris did have one of his better starts against the Angels on May 13. He allowed two runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings as he was a no-decision in a 4-3 Detroit win.

The Tigers (-138) bats continue their current hot streak as they pound the Angels at home.
