Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Washington Nationals (-107) vs. Miami Marlins (-103) – total: 9.5 – view all MLB lines
The Nationals, as you may know, are boasting one of the most explosive batting attack in the league. Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy, Ryan Zimmerman, and Anthony Rendon have already combined for 59 home runs and 190-plus RBIs this season. They’ll be accompanied by Tanner Roark on defense, who’s 6-4 with a 4.39 ERA in 14 starts this season.
Not too far behind in terms of offensive firepower are the Marlins, who boast the core of Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna, Justin Bour, Christian Yelich, and Dee Gordon – the latter two are batting above .340 in the past week. Second-year pitcher Justin Nicolino will be leading them on defense. Tomorrow will be his fourth start on the year; he has earned a 0-1 card with a 4.15 ERA in the three appearances.
This will be these two squads’ first meeting since the season-opening series in April, where the Nats won two of three games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Nationals take it, 8-6.
Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics (10:05 PM ET)
Line: Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics – view all MLB lines
Though currently bottoming the American League West (31-38), the As have momentum and rhythm on their side. They are winners of four straight, as they are fresh off a sweep of the New York Yankees. Among the two guys to keep an eye on are Ryon Healy and Matt Joyce, who combine to go 17-for-41 with four homers in the past week.
The AL West-leading Astros, meanwhile, have been shaky in the last two weeks, dropping eight of 12 during that span. This can be chalked as a bad stretch, though, since the ever reliable tandem of Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa are still hitting well – both are batting above .364 (15-for-40) in the last seven days.
The Astros have won all but one of the five meetings this season, and have held the As to two runs or less three times.
Writer’s Prediction
The Astros snap the Athletics’ winning streak, 6-4.
