Betting on Venus Williams  (-105)

Venus Williams is back in the final of the Wimbledon Championships, and she’s been absolutely dominant in doing so. The World No. 1 has dropped just a single set through her first six matches at the All England Club. She showed her superiority in the semis against Johanna Konta, needing just 73 minutes to defeat the hometown favorite.

History now beckons for the 37-year-old veteran who can become the oldest women’s Grand Slam champion in the Open era (since 1968) with a win on Saturday. Standing in her way from that grand achievement is the talented Garbine Muguruza. Williams leads the Spaniard in their head-to-head matchup, 3-1. Muguruza, however, won their last meeting at the Rome Masters earlier this year (6-2, 3-6, 6-2).

A Wimbledon final is a different kind of animal, though, and Williams has boatloads of experience when it comes to that great occasion. Saturday’s showdown will be Williams’ ninth final appearance at the SW19. She’s now the oldest women’s finalist in any Grand Slam tournament since Martina Navratilova reached the Wimbledon final in 1994. Williams has an overall singles record of 87-14 at the All England Club, winning the titles in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2008. Look for that experience to shine through in this clash with Muguruza.

Betting on Garbine Muguruza (-125)

Garbine Muguruza booked a spot in the 2017 Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles final with a resounding 6-1, 6-1 win over Magdalena Rybarikova on Thursday. It was a superb display from the 14th-seeded Spaniard who needed just one hour and five minutes to record the lopsided win. With the victory, Muguruza is through to the Wimbledon final for the second time in the last three years.

Muguruza has been in fine form at the All England Club, dropping just one set at this year’s Championships and eliminating two-time Slam champions Angelique Kerber and Svetlana Kuznetsova along the way. Muguruza will look to end her tournament with a flourish when she takes on Venus Williams in the final. For Muguruza to capture the crown this coming Saturday, she needs to continue her excellent return play.

She won 56 percent of her receiving points against Rybarikova in the semifinals with the 2016 French Open champion converting four of her 10 break point chances. Another key weapon for Muguruza that she needs to utilize against the five-time Wimbledon champ is her net attack. She won 18 of her 24 net points against Rybarikova in the semis.
