Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (-1.0)
Regular Season Record: 10-2
The Vikings have now won two in a row since losing to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12. After beating the New England Patriots on Thanksgiving, 33-26, the Vikings bagged a 27-22 win at home against the New York Jets in Week 13. The offense of Minnesota is stacked, and it’s got the ability to break – or at least bend – any defense in front of them. They can continue their high-scoring ways this coming Sunday against Detroit, which owns a defense that is being abused almost weekly. In fact, the Lions are last in the NFL with 27.0 points allowed per game. It is also last in the league overall in total defense with 402.2 total yards given up per contest. Plus, the Vikings now have former Detroit weapon TJ Hockenson, who actually scored a touchdown versus Minnesota in the Vikings’ 28-24 home win way back in Week 3.
The Vikings are 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games overall.
Betting on the Detroit Lions (+1.0)
Regular Season Record: 5-7
Sure, their defense has been horrible, but their offense has been the opposite this season. The Lions are fifth in the NFL with 26.3 points per game and seventh with 369.1 total yards per contest. The Lions are also third in the NFL with 3.2 touchdowns per outing. There is just a plethora of offensive weapons in Detroit. D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams are both dangerous on the ground, while the Lions’ receiving corps is very deep. And it just got deeper with rookie Jameson Williams finally making his debut in the Lions’ 40-14 home win against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday. Williams saw extremely limited snaps, but his workload will be larger going forward. In the first meeting with the Vikings, Williams had 87 rushing yards and two scores on 20 carries.
The Lions are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Vikings win, 33-21.
