Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox – view all MLB lines
The Red Sox’s slump is still on-going as they dropped their series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Sox are now just 3-7 in their last 10 games. They’re in danger of dropping even further into their slump with Brian Johnson set to make the start tonight. Johnson has totaled just seven innings over his last two starts, giving up six earned runs on 12 hits, with three homers.
He’ll go up against J.A. Happ, who gave up a season-high three homers in his last outing. But prior to that start, he had a 1.99 ERA through his last five starts. Happ has a fine record against the Sox. The Jays are 4-0 in his last four starts against them, and he’s given up just six earned runs in 20.1 innings over those four starts.
Writer’s Prediction
The Red Sox get a game back as their offense finds a way past Happ.
New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins (8:00 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees (-130) at Minnesota Twins (+120); total: 10.5 – view all MLB lines
The Yankees’ offense continued its mini slump as they were held silent in a 4-2 loss to the Twins last night. Aaron Judge now has just one hit in 21 at-bats as his post-Home Run Derby drought keeps going. Luis Cessa is now set to make his fourth start of the season, which is not a good omen for the Yanks. Aside from him going 0-3 with a 5.29 ERA in the three games he’s started, the Yankees are also 0-3 in the games where he appeared in relief.
However, that might be overruled by the fact that they’ll be up against the newly-acquired veteran Bartolo Colon. At 2-8 with an 8.14 ERA, the 44-year-old is having a horrific season. His last two starts with the Atlanta Braves resulted in 14 earned runs on 15 hits in just 7.2 innings of work.
Writer’s Prediction
The Yankees (-130) capitalize on Colon as they score a morale-boosting win.
