Conference Picks for the 2017 NCAA Football Season

ACC

TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF. TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF.
Florida State -110 Clemson +350
Louisville +500 Miami (FL) +500
Virginia Tech +900 NC State +2,500
Georgia Tech +3,300 North Carolina +2,800
Pittsburgh +5,000 Duke +8,000
Boston College +20,000 Syracuse +15,000
Virginia +15,000 Wake Forest +15,000

ACC became a much stronger football conference in 2016, but with plenty of departures from players that help shaped the “cause,” it’s anybody’s guess if the division will revert back to its old self.

What’s encouraging, however, is that the top teams, like FSU and Louisville, still have solid quarterbacks on their arsenal. The Seminoles’ Deondre Francois, who should continue to get better, and the Cardinals’ Lamar Jackson, who accounted for 51 touchdowns last season (30 passing and 21 rushing),  should be able to continue generating buzz for the conference.

WRITER’S PREDICTION:

Louisville (+500) wins the division after a tight battle with FSU.

BIG 10

TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF. TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF.
Ohio State -110 Michigan +600
Wisconsin +275 Penn State +450
Nebraska +2,000 Michigan State +5,000
Northwestern +1,800 Iowa +2,000
Minnesota +3,000 Indiana +8,000
Illinois +25,000 Maryland +10,000
Purdue +25,000 Rutgers +40,000

The coming season should further prove that it’s a fun time to follow Big Ten football. Along with having talent at every corner, there’s just too many brilliant coaches to watch out for – they got a bunch of dudes from the old school (Urban Meyer, Jim Harbaugh, etc.) and the new school (PJ Fleck, Jeff Brohm, etc.), and it’s producing great finishes.

From Penn State making that Big Ten title run, to Ohio State reaching the playoffs, to upstarts Northwestern and Minnesota winning bowl games, everything’s really appearing to be interesting for 2017.

WRITER’S PREDICTION:

Wisconsin (+275) will win the division.

BIG 12

TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF. TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF.
Oklahoma -115 Oklahoma State +300
Texas +400 Kansas State +650
West Virginia +1,800 TCU +1,100
Baylor +2,500 Iowa State +8,000
Texas Tech +6,000 Kansas +25,000

The Big 12 will continue being the entertaining Big 12. The conference’s top dogs – Oklahoma and Oklahoma State – are going to remain as the hottest tickets in town, while strong contenders Texas Tech and West Virginia will be the second-tier squads.

Texas, meanwhile, who acts as the “glue guy” of the group, could be the surprise team of the nation, as they have a handful of weapons and a top-notch offensive line.

WRITER’S PREDICTION:

Oklahoma (+275) stays at the top.

PAC 12

TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF. TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF.
USC +105 Washington +175
UCLA +800 Stanford +550
Oregon +1,500 Utah +2,800
Washington State +1,400 Colorado +3,300
Arizona State +5,000 Arizona +8,800
Oregon State +8,000 California +25,00

The PAC 12, as you may know, is a conference that lives, breathes, eats, and bathes offense, as highlighted by Oregon and California both being one of the most high-octane scoring attacks in the nation – both ranked inside the top 30 in points and total yardage per game last season.

There are many other storylines to follow for 2017, though. Among those are Jake Browning and Sam Darnold’s further development, Josh Rosen’s play post-shoulder injury, Colorado and Utah’s progression, and who in the PAC 12-North could challenge powerhouse Washington next.

WRITER’S PREDICTION:

The Huskies (+275) win an exciting race with USC.

SEC

TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF. TEAM ODDS TO WIN THE CONF.
Alabama -150 LSU +500
Auburn +450 Georgetown +550
Florida +750 Tennessee +1,800
Texas A&M +3,500 Arkansas +6,000
Mississippi State +7,000 Ole Miss -111
Kentucky +10,000 South Carolina +8,000
Missouri +20,000 Vanderbilt +20,000

Outside of Alabama, who went 14-1, and Florida, who still looked good defensively, the entire SEC simply underwhelmed in 2016. Georgia and Auburn were the next best teams and both only finished 8-5. No one between the other key contenders – LSU, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Arkansas – were also able to show much flash.

The big “HOWEVER,” though, – brace yourselves, SEC haters – is they are still the premiere conference in the country. As easy it is to point holes because of last year’s dud season, they will remain as the group with the most talent, hype, and buzz.

WRITER’S PREDICTION:

Alabama (-150) owns this conference, and everyone is just paying rent.
