Betting on the Duke Blue Devils (24-6 Overall/13-4 Conference)
The Blue Devils are a win away from winning the ACC Tournament title in Mike Krzyzewski’s final season as head coach of the basketball program. That’s after Duke eked out a hard-earned 80-76 win against the pesky Miami Hurricanes Friday night. Before that, Duke beat the Syracuse Orange handily, 88-79, in the quarterfinal stage. Duke is having its way offensively in the postseason. The Blue Devils shot 47.8 percent from the field against Syracuse and then made 50 percent of their shots in the Miami game. Paolo Banchero, who had 18 points and 11 rebounds, can get it going anew against the Hokies, who let the super freshman go for 23 points and eight rebounds in the first meeting back in December in Durham. As a team, Duke shot 53.7 percent from the field in that game.
The Over is 5-0 in Duke’s last five games.
Betting on the Virginia Tech Hokies (+6)
Record: 22-12 Overall/11-9 Conference
The Hokies played the role of the big spoiler, as they defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament Friday, 73-67. What would have been a titanic matchup in the conference finals between the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels was negated by Virginia Tech’s hot shooting from deep and frenetic defense. The Hokies went 9/20 from behind the arc against North Carolina and also held the Tar Heels to only 36.7 percent shooting. The Tar Heels also had 11 turnovers and shot an atrocious 3/26 from downtown. Virginia Tech’s defense is wreaking havoc in the tournament and without a doubt, that’s going to be a huge factor for the Hokies in this rematc versus the high-flying Blue Devils. Also looking to come up big is Keve Aluma, who had 25 points and 10 rebounds in the first meeting with Duke. He scored 18 points versus the Tar Heels.
Virginia Tech, tops in the ACC in Non-Stl TO% (9.1) is 4-2 against the spread in its last six games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Duke wins, 77-68.
